Job Update

As you might know, if you follow L2 on facebook, we’ve been working on a new project for a client. Our neighbor saw us while working on the modern dresser and we got to talking about our business. Next thing we knew he was pulling what looked to be an upright armoir without doors out of the garage. When he brought it over to us, we realized it was a gun rack. He got it at an auction and the original glass sliding doors had broken during a military move.

We were originally concerned about the quality of the wood.  We knew that some of the pieces were solid and would sand easily to remove the stain, but were concerned that others might be plywood and not wear well.  The client wanted it refinished to more of a walnut color, with custom panel doors made with a lock for the front, as he has three small children.

The first step was to sand the entire thing down. We took all of the hardware off and the drawer out. We then took the back off so that both it and the vertical piece would be easier to sand. After a couple nights after work, it was sanded and ready for stain.

We used a Moorish Teak stain that performed like walnut the best on this wood – which ended up being of wonderful quality!

The above picture is after the first round of staining.  We have some touchups to do and are in the process of making the doors for the front.   Look for another update soon!
