Administrative requirements are provided by each jurisdiction, amended from the model code, dictating the process that gets to the creation of a new building. #AREsketches

A model code can – and should – always be improved on. It provides the lowest bar of health, safety, and welfare protection. #AREsketches

This bookshelf has been controlled chaos for awhile. Finish a book, set it down. Lend a book, stack falls over. Today I tackled a corner of the #L2HQ office and already feel a little less stressed by mess. And of course it’s categorized. From top to bottom you’ve got your catch-all (including the two #AREsketches volumes by yours truly), the Lance books behind the mask, design and business books on the middle shelf, and last but not least you have the feminists standing tall with the men-who-aren’t-so-great-with-women on their sides groveling. Well…I guess it’s categories that make sense to me 😂😂. And yes, I have a whole different bookcase devoted to architecture. #whatanarchitectdoes

The *enforcement* of the building code is done by the Authority Having Jurisdiction….BUT….the architect is required by law to protect the HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE of a building’s users. #AREsketches

We don’t often think of the Constitution and Bill of Rights as overlapping with architecture, but the 10th amendment provided states rights to enforce their own building codes. #AREsketches

The 1911 fire of a factory in NYC caused a much harder look at building codes and life safety protections. #AREsketches

Think you can tell a story through a drawing? That’s the basis of #AREsketches – bite-size nuggets of info relevant to the architect registration exams in visual form. Because of my work helping people pass their tests and get licensed using visual sketches, @architizer asked me to jury alongside some powerhouse people in the #architecture industry: @bobborson of #LifeOfAnArchitect, @chrisprecht of @studioprecht, #MonicaPonceDeLeon of @mpdlstudio and @princetonarchitecture, Amanda Ferber of @architecture_hunter, #MarcTsurumaki of @ltlarchitects and @columbia, #CielHunter of @vice, #HilarySample of @mmmosarchitects and @columbiagsapp, and #GeorgWindeck author of #ConstructionMatters. The registration is open now and I can’t wait to see the ideas people submit and stories they tell through their drawings!
